HOT FLASHES:What causes them and What to Do

Sweating or Not?

Sally, has Heat Flushing up from her Chest, up her throat,to her Cheeks,that become Bright Red. She feels like an uncomfortable Furnace for a minute or so and then it fades out. It happens a few times a day, especially in the afternoon. Sally sleeps Well at night. No sweating involved.

Jane is OK during the Day, but wakes up every few hours throughout the night…
Boiling Hot and Sweating Profusely…Throws the covers off…and may even experience palpitations, feeling Wired and Jittery. Thirsty,too.

Sandra isn’t bothered so much by Heat.

Night Sweats and Chinese Herbs

Night Sweats are a common Menopause Symptom. Many Menopausal women experience Sweating with their Hot Flashes throughout the day. When it happens at night, though, it’s a problem in itself. It can mean ruined sleep. Women typically wake up at 2-3 in the morning, soaked and burning. What a Drag!

One of the first is make sure you are DRINKING enough…fluids.

That means water, juice, herb teas, etc. That means Two liters a day. Many women tell me they don’t drink at all after their morning coffee.

Woman and Menopause: Symptoms and Treatment

Menopause is the stage in a woman’s life when the menstrual cycle stops. This is not a disease; rather it is a natural process in a woman’s life. However, the stage when a woman has her menopause could be a very painful and mentally debilitating stage. There could be several complications.

From an Ayurvedic point of view, menses is the flow of excess pitta from the woman’s body. Menses is called as Raja in Ayurveda. For this reason, the stoppage of the menses flow permanently, i.e. menopause is called as Raja Nivrutti, which literally means retirement of menses.

Causes of Menopause

Menopause is the end of menstruation. The word comes from the Greek mens, meaning monthly, and pausis, meaning cessation. Menopause is part of a woman’s natural aging process when her ovaries produce lower levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone and when she is no longer able to become pregnant.

Unlike a woman’s first menstruation, which starts on a single day, the changes leading up to menopause happen over several years. The average age for menopause is 52. But menopause commonly happens anytime between the ages of 42 and 56.
